Deepings Swimming is delighted to announce its club captains and vice captains for 2023.

Penelope Baxter has been appointed girls club captain with Eloise Walker as vice-captain, while Jacob Briers is the boys club captain and Lewis Tarver vice-captain. All four swimmers train with the Elite squad.

Penelope, who has been swimming with the club since 2017, said: “I have been with DSC for nearly six years, and I have learned important skills such as commitment needed for waking up at silly hours and determination to reach county level. At times it has been very difficult for the club and myself due to the closure of Deepings Leisure Centre, but this has helped me to appreciate the dedication of our coaches. The honour of being chosen as girls club captain means I can encourage younger swimmers to learn perseverance and achieve their goals.”

Jacob, who joined the club six years ago at the age of eight, already assists the coaching staff on poolside with the competitive squad and wants to help the younger swimmers improve their skills.

“I am excited to become club captain,” he said. “The club has helped me in so many ways and I am keen to give something back.

“I have learned to work hard, never give up and always try to improve thanks to the help of the coaches. I have made some great friends at the club and want to help other swimmers to achieve their goals by working hard and listening to the coaches.”

The quartet intend to plan some social events for the club during the course of the year – details to following due course!
