The Rob Welbourn Open Meet 2026 marks the 14th running of Deepings Swimming Club’s flagship competition and a special milestone as part of our 50th anniversary year. This year we are delighted to welcome swimmers from Boston Amateur Swimming Club, Louth Dolphins Swimming Club, Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club, Grantham Swimming Club and City of Peterborough Swimming Club entrants, joining Deepings for a weekend of exciting racing and great atmosphere.

Across 28 events, 286 heats and 328 swimmers, RW26 provides a full and varied programme of racing for athletes across the age groups. The meet offers a valuable opportunity for swimmers to gain competitive experience, test their progress and work towards personal goals including PBs and qualifying standards.

The meet proudly carries the name of Rob Welbourn, Paralympic champion and former Deepings swimmer. Rob began his journey in Deeping St James before progressing to the highest levels of international Para swimming. Over a ten year career, he represented Great Britain at three Paralympic Games, winning five medals, including gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, alongside multiple silver medals in the S10 400m freestyle. He also competed at major international championships, the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and secured further medals at IPC World and European Championships. His achievements, supported by his family’s long involvement in the club, remain an inspiration to every member.

RW26 celebrates that legacy. It reflects the strength of our club community, the dedication of our volunteers and the determination of every swimmer stepping onto the blocks. As Deepings Swimming Club marks 50 years of development, friendship and competition, this meet showcases exactly what our club stands for: opportunity, ambition and pride.

On behalf of Deepings Swimming Club, I extend a warm welcome to everyone joining us for the 2026 Rob Welbourn Open Meet, hosted once again at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.
