About us
Established in 1976, Deepings Swimming Club offers competitive training to swimmers aged eight and up, with no age limit. With over 100 swimming members in addition to a wealth of volunteer effort and professional coaching staff, we are immensely proud of our history in the local community. Our swimmers have competed at the British, English and Welsh national championships as well as internationally; our annual competitive meet is named for Deepings swimmer and Paralympic gold medallist, Rob Welbourn.
The strength and spirit of our Club have been particularly evident as we have continued to grow and thrive despite adversities in the form of Covid and the closure of Deepings Leisure Centre.
Preparing our swimmers for competition and more
The training we provide complements the later stages of the Learn to Swim programmes offered by local pools, helping swimmers develop skills and strengths through a progression of training squads.
Our swimmers participate in a wide range of competitions both locally, across our region and nationally. Younger swimmers will be encouraged to compete in Club time trials and the Grantham Grand Prix, where they will discover all the benefits involved in competing as a team with support from our volunteers and coaches. As they develop, competitive opportunities will be presented at County, Regional and National level.
We encourage all our swimmers to fulfil their potential in the pool at whatever level they reach. However we also value highly the associated and transferable benefits of training and competing in a swimming club. Our swimmers are expected to learn to focus, motivate themselves to work hard, plan their time and take responsibility for themselves. As a result, they will learn to be resilient, accept and use constructive feedback and work as a team with other swimmers as well as with the coaches. We encourage them to respect and support their team-mates and, we hope, develop and maintain lasting friendships.
Our vision
We want all our swimmers to have the opportunity to achieve their performance goals and to feel that they belong to a thriving community full of of friendship, expertise and mutual support.
We aim to show that swimmers do best when they are nurtured as individuals, confident in their ability to fulfil their potential.
Our mission
We provide a training programme for swimmers which places our athletes at the centre of a club led by a team of experienced coaches and supported a wider community of committed volunteers.
We develop younger swimmers from the later stages of the Learn to Swim programme (Stage 6 onwards) with clear pathways to competition based on the potential of individual swimmers.
We aim to inspire a love of the sport in all our swimmers and provide them with the opportunity to continue their participation throughout their lives.
Our values
We are a Club that believes that developing our swimmers’ performance is best achieved through inclusion, friendship and fun as well as the expertise and physical challenges offered by our coaching programme.
We want our swimmers to see the pool as a place where they can find inspiration, supported by our community of coaches, volunteers and of course, other swimmers.
Find out more about our Squads
We have an established development pathway of Age Group squads for swimmers under the age of 18; click here for details.
Our thriving Masters squad provides the younger swimmers with an inspiring example of the potential of swimming as a sport for life. With swimmers from age 18 upwards, our Masters squad also compete at the highest level, from local, through to national and international competitions. In doing so they reinforce a core value, which is to instil into our swimmers a sense that they can get into any swimming pool, at any time in their life, and feel that they belong there.

Where do we train?
Our home is the Memorial Pool at the Stamford Endowed School; we also use the SES Junior Pool as well as facilities at Stanground Academy Peterborough, Stamford Leisure Centre at Stamford and in the summer, the Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool.

Click here to book a FREE TRIAL! We run trials for Age Group squads at least once a term; Masters squad trials are more informal. Although trials are partly to ensure a swimmer is ready to join the club, they're also a taster for new swimmers - we want to make to sure you're going to enjoy training with us!
