Alice Grant and Tony Baskeyfield set new county records as Deepings Swimming Club came away from the Lincolnshire Masters Championships in Louth with an impressive 38 medals.

The squad of 11 all contributed to the final tally, winning a total of 16 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze.

Alice’s new county record came in the 50m butterfly 55-59 age group, as she surged through the field to win in a time of 46.04. She enjoyed further success with first place in the 100IM, added a pair of silvers in the 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, and completed her weekend with bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Eleven gold medals were won by three swimmers. Tony Baskeyfield had an outstanding weekend, touching home first in all five of his events in the 60-64 age group.

Tony showed his versatility with victory in the 100IM, before collecting gold in the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. He then set the pool ablaze with his final gold, shattering the 100m freestyle Masters county record by almost a second to set a new mark of 1:12.42.

Also achieving a perfect weekend at the county champs were Helen McFetridge and Gareth Roberts, each with a hat-trick of wins.

Helen’s successes came in the 50-54 age group, where she won the 100IM, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Gareth dipped under 30 seconds to win the 50m freestyle in the 45-49 age group, doubled up for gold in the 100m freestyle and also topped the podium in the 50m butterfly.

Simon Tee added two golds of his own to the mix in the 45-49 age group, with wins in the 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke, and then took silver in the 50m freestyle, ensuring a one-two for Deepings in that event.

Deepings final gold of the weekend was won by Chris Orchard in the 60-64yrs 50m breaststroke. Chris also swam away with a quartet of silvers in the 100IM, 50m and 100m freestyle, and 50m backstroke.

In the 55-59 age group, Jacqueline Crockett reached the podium three times, with a pair of silvers in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, and bronze in the 100m freestyle. Paul Smith-Shelton (50-54yrs) swam three new personal bests to win silver in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, and bronze in the 100IM. He also PB’ed in the 50m butterfly, finishing fourth.

Also among the medals was Kirsty Scott, winning silver in the 40-44yrs 50m backstroke. Kirsty added bronze in the 100m freestyle and was unlucky not to pick up more from her six races.

Deepings youngest swimmer at the championships, 22-year-old George Shaw, won three bronze medals, in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke, while Kerys Arundell completed the individual medals with bronze in the 30-34yrs 50m backstroke.

The team enjoyed further success in the relays, winning bronze in both the mens/womens mixed 100m medley and 100m freestyle races to cap a triumphant weekend of competition.
