24 May 2016
The European Aquatics Championships is the continental Aquatics
championship for Europe, which is organized by LEN – the governing body for
Aquatics in Europe. These Championships are currently held every two years and
this year it was held at the new Olympic pool in London, three disciplines are
included: swimming, diving & synchronized swimming.
London welcomed thousands of Masters athletes from around Europe for a rare
opportunity to compete in this iconic venue. Championships programme to create the European Aquatics
Championships.
The European Aquatics Championships form a crucial part of the performance
journey for all three disciplines and provide a benchmark ahead of the Rio
Olympic Games later in the year.
The venue was host to swimmers
over the age of 25 and took five days to complete. It was a chance
for our master swimmers to experience swimming
in a major event at the London
Aquatic Centre. The competition was intense and our swimmers had
to endure long days and little time to warm up before competing but I am
pleased to say they did themselves and us proud;
they all walked away with some excellent times.
Although no medals were won on this occasion there was plenty of personal best times set, in fact the men appeared to be on fire in the pool every one of them produced long course times and when converted were all PBs too. Gareth Roberts 50m and 100m butterfly times were County Qualifying Times - well done!
The ladies did well too; our highest place swimmer was Linda Griffin finishing in 8thplace in the 50m Freestyle. She went on to finish 10th in the 50m Butterfly and 11th in the 100m Freestyle. Emma Lund finished 10thin the 100m Butterfly.
After five days of competition our swimmers produced 19 long course PBs, 13 converted Pbs and 2 CQTs.
Well Done Everyone!
