Deepings takes fourth place at Junior Fenland League

Deepings Swimming Club produced a strong team performance with several outstanding individual races to finish fourth in the final round of the Junior Fenland League. The result means they qualified for the ‘C’ final in October.
Three swimmers won their events at the team competition, which took place in Thetford last weekend.
Ella Gerrard stepped up an age group to win the 13/U 100m individual medley in 1:22.77 and completed a brace of victories with first place in the 12/U 50m backstroke, dipping below 40 seconds to stop the clock in 39.14.
Grace Edwards also achieved a pair of first place finishes after excellent swims in the 11/U 50m butterfly (39.89) and 50m freestyle (35.67).
Kieren NG completed the winning performances with victory in the 9yrs 50m breaststroke, touching home in a time of 56.90.
A number of swimmers competed in older age groups. In the 13/U 50m backstroke, 10-year-old Lewis Tarver and 11-year-old Ella Briault both finished in a highly commendable fourth place.
Lewis also matched up against the older swimmers in the 50m breaststroke, where a superb swim took him to third place in 48.09, and in the 50m butterfly, finishing fifth. He completed a busy evening with another fifth place, this time in the 13/U 100IM.
Maya Sangiorgio also moved up a level to the highest 13/U age group in two events. In the 50m freestyle, a powerful swim saw her touch home in second place in 34.34, while in the 50m butterfly she competed well to finish fourth in 40.89.
Lynn Chapman, Deepings Swimming Club head coach, praised the resilience and resolve of the junior team.
“We had several swimmers competing for the first time and a few who had to race in a higher age group but they all kept their focus and put in some outstanding performances,” she said.
“Everyone should be proud of how they competed and look forward to giving their best in the C final next month.”
