Rob Welbourn Open Meet 2025

On behalf of Deepings Swimming Club, I extend a warm welcome to everyone joining us for the 2025 Rob Welbourn Open Meet, hosted once again at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre. It is fantastic to see so many clubs coming together, where swimmers from South Lincs SC, Grantham SC, City of Lincoln Pentaqua SC, Lincoln Vulcans SC, Louth SC and Boston Amateur SC  will compete in our annual event, Thanks to Hosts and Supporters In 2021, Our home pool for 46 years at Deepings Leisure Centre closed and sadly is unlikely to reopen despite best efforts of the Club and Community. We are therefore especially grateful to Grantham Swimming Club for their generosity and support in making this meet possible. Their help, and the support of local pools, has been vital to the survival and continued success of our club.

DSC would also like to publicly thank Stamford Endowed Schools Memorial and Junior pools, Stanground pool, and the Stamford & Bourne leisure pools for providing training time and stability to the club removing any uncertainty for the club following closure of our home pool — Thank you.

Over the years, Team DSC has shown remarkable resilience, through the combined effects of the pandemic and the loss of our home pool, it was a very challenging environment for swimmers, parents, coaches and volunteers. However, despite all of this, DSC remain a competitive club as we look forward to celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year, with renewed stability and focus, providing our swimmers the environment they need to train, improve and compete in a sport they love.

My sincere thanks to Sophie Beckerton for taking on the organisation of the Rob Welbourn Meet again this year. Her dedication, experience and meticulous planning have been essential in bringing RW’25 together .

To all officials working across the weekend: we are indebted to you for giving your time and expertise to ensure this meet runs smoothly.

To parents, guardians and relatives: please enjoy the weekend, savour every race and thank you for the crucial support you give our swimmers and our club.

Finally to all our participants, I have the following advice:
 ·       Believing in yourself is the first step toward achieving something amazing.
 ·       Trust your training and believe that every early morning or late evening swim session has prepared you for this moment;
 ·       Focus on the elements you can control—your strokes, your turns, and your effort—and give each race your full focus. Remember that off-days happen and that true success is measured by perseverance, learning, and the courage to get back up and try again. Find hippieness in the water and in the progress you make, be brave enough to push your limits, and treat every meet as an opportunity to refine technique and understand your body better. You are tougher than you think, and winning is only one way to succeed—growing in confidence, mastering new skills, and knowing you gave your best are victories too.
