WORLD YOUTH FRIENDSHIP GAMES 2007
AMSTERDAM

The Youth Friendship Games in Amsterdam is an international sports event for athletes (both boys and girls) from 11 to 19 years of age. This tournament consist of eight sports; Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Swimming, Wrestling, Bowling and Tennis.

We had five girls representing Deepings Swimming Club this year: Hayley Walbrin, Jenny Arthur, Laura Colledge, Lauren Mitchell & Samara McKnight and they all swam remarkably well as the results show.

Our congratulations must go to Hayley Walbrin who won her age group event in the 50m Breaststroke and was awarded a medal in both the 100m & 200m Breaststroke where she finished 2nd & 3rd.

My congratulations also goes to Lauren Mitchell & Jenny Arthur on achieving PBs.

All five girls received a Youth Friendship Games pennant as a souvenir for competing at the tournament. I’m sure they all had an amazing time not only competing but attending the evening entertainment too.

Although this event brings young people from all over the world together, it is also event also raises money for charity. It was nice to see on the web site Olympic Swim Champion Inge de Bruijn was attending and hopefully our swimmers got to meet her. She likes to do charity work and is the official ambassador of KiKa which is a charity for children with cancer.
