YOUTH FRIENDSHIP GAMES
AMSTERDAM July 2008
In each of the last 3 years, a number of swimmers from the club, and their families, have attended the YFG in Amsterdam.
This is a multi-sports event for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 19. Competitors come from countries across Europe, as well as a large contingent from North America.
The 2008 Games are to be held from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th July. More detailed information about the games is available from the very comprehensive website www.yfgholland.com, and a summary is displayed on the club notice board.
The swimming competition is held at the Dutch National Pool – Sloterparkbad – which is in the SW outskirts of Amsterdam, some miles away from the Games Village in Heemstede.
In past years, the Deeping party has camped at the Games Village, or stayed in hotels close to the swimming pool. We have travelled sometimes by car and ferry, or last year we flew from Stansted.
Although the Games are still 7 months away, there is a limit to numbers who can enter the swimming gala, and transport and accommodation (especially the special offers) get booked up early.
