Deepings Swimmers Selected For England Talent Programme

Two of Deepings Swimming Clubs rising stars have been selected for the prestigious England Talent Programme following their success at the National Championships in July.

Lauren Wray (14) has been selected for the first time and will be training with the “Open Water” section following her excellent swims in the 800m and 1,500m events at the National Championships. The ‘Open Water’ section’s head coach Mark Perry is a former Head Coach at Deepings.

Marcus Cook (13) has been selected for the second consecutive year having achieved some strong results in several events and a significant performance in the 400m Individual Medley where he achieved 6th place overall in his age group at the National Championships Final.

Both Swimmers will have to sign contracts with the ASA and attend several training camps throughout the year where they will be assigned a physiotherapist, a strength and conditioning coach, as well as having access to a nutritionist and undergo biomechanical assessments.

Deepings Head Coach, Lynn Chapman said, “I’m so proud to have two swimmers on the England Talent Programme this season, Lauren and Marcus have worked so hard to achieve this level and I’m sure that it’s just the beginning of their success at this and higher levels.”

Martyn Reynolds, Club Chairman said, “we are a small and friendly club which has the ability to produce some excellent athletes and following the Clubs recent re-structure, we hope to have other swimmers reaching this level in the near future; we have some very talented young swimmers coming through our training programmes and this news is a brilliant way to start the new season.”

A Massive well done to Lauren & Marcus and thank you to all who helped them get there.
