Jordan Bull Deepings youngest swimmer produced yet another gutsy swim to record his first ever long course PB in the 200m Breaststroke ... and what a good ‘stage’ on which to do it -The Midlands Championships! Jordan first qualified for this event at Lincolnshire’s County Championships back in March, where he smashed his previous best by more than 13 seconds and he was propelled up the rankings and is currently top of the boy’s 11 year old rankings in this event. Over the weekend he set a new long course PB which is another New Long Course Record. Jordan also set one in his 100m Breaststroke too for the 11 year old age group, subject to ratification of course, an excellent achievement. What is remarkable is that Jordan has only swum this event twice this year once at the Counties and now at the Midlands. We would like to congratulate him on his achievements - hopefully we will see more from him next year. Well done!

Round Up of This Year’s Midlands Youth & BAGCAT Championships.
Deepings sent a Senior Squad of six and a Junior Squad of four to the City of Coventry to compete at this year’s Midlands District Championships, all the squad raced well and achieved some great results. Although the results this year did not quite match up to last year, we have to be encouraged by the fact we had some new juniors at the Midlands (Jordan Bull and Kelda McKnight) both performed very well, and that Alex Wray (who swam the 200m IM last year too) improved on his BAGCAT rankings by 7 places - all excellent news. Hopefully they will be back next year with more qualifying times in other events.
Unfortunately Marcus Cook our top junior swimmer had to withdrawn from the Championships and like David Beckham had to sit this one out. He has struggled with illness and injury all year but is hoping to be well enough to compete at the Nationals at the end of July. Marcus already has a qualifying time in the 400IM. Let’s hope he stays fit and well, and I’m told he is already looking ahead to next season.
Our senior swimmers doubled their numbers this year and are going from strength to strength. It was fantastic to see some new names swimming this long course Championships - Oliver Perkins & Laura Swain who qualified for the first time and Thomas Freeman& Luke DeMoya who recently joined us from other clubs. We had a record number of New County Long Course Record that has gone off for ratification too. We had three swimmers make finals Laura Swain, Tom Lane and Lauren Wray who made four.
All our swimmers gave 100% to their performance, but like all sports there are highs and lows. The club is very proud of all of all our swimmers and of what they have all achieved. It’s onward and upward, and we look forward to seeing how many squad members can qualify for next years Midland Championships. For those going to the Nationals, we wish you well!
