Midland District Youths Long Course Championships 1st & 2nd May 2010 - Coventry
Deepings Swimmers in Record Breaking Form!
Three Deepings Swimmers Make Finals!
6 Long Course PBs, 2 Converted PBs & 12 New Long Course County Records Achieved!
Deepings Swimmers go from strength to strength after doubling the number of senior swimmers who qualified for this year’s Midland Youth Championships. The Championships got off to an excellent start at Coventry last weekend with three of our swimmers qualifying for 6 finals. They also managed to achieve 12 New Lincolnshire County Long Course Records between them, subject to ratification. I’m delighted that they all achieved something as they took time out from their revision to compete!!!!
Lauren Wray (15) had a very busy schedule she competed in six events but managed to swim her way into four finals. She put in four superb performances but couldn’t quite get into a medal winning position on this occasion. She did, however, walk away with three New County Long Course Records in the 15 years 100m Butterfly, 400m IM and 200m Backstroke. Excellent News - Congratulations!
Tom Lane and Laura Swain both made finals too. 15 year old Laura Swain didn’t seemed to be put off by the prospect of swimming against senior swimmers in her first ever Youth Championships. She stepped up to the challenge and put in a blistering swim in the final of the 50m Breaststroke to set a New Country Long Course Records (to be ratified) and set a personal best time for herself. Well Done! 17 year old Tom Lane had a busy programme. He swam in four events and made the final of the 50m Butterfly. Although not known as a butterfly specialist, when he does swim the event he makes it count! This was only his fourth outing this year in the event but he made the final at the Midland Championships ... what a performance. He collected a personal best time and a New County Long Course Record! – Congratulations!
Two of our 18 year old swimmers were swimming under the Deepings banner for the very first time at the Midlands Championships they were Thomas Freeman & Luke DeMoya who both managed to achieve New County Long Course Times in their age groups – Congratulations!
Oliver Perkins (16) qualified for his first ever Midlands Championships in the 50m Butterfly event at the County Championships earlier this year. He gave a superb performance on the day to produce an new long course PB despite the fact Coventry swimming pool is notorious for being a slow pool. It’s a very different experience swimming in a 50m (long course) pool and at this level and I must say Oliver handled the occasion very well.
Congratulations to our six swimmers, first on qualifying for the Midlands Championships and on your achievements
