7 New Long Course PBs Achieved!

Four Deepings swimmers competed at Midland Youths Long Course Championships at Coventry over the May Day Bank holiday weekend.

We have waited a long time to report this, so we’re delighted to say at the ripe old age of 19, Dom Gray one of our most talented senior swimmers has won two Bronze Medals for the very first time at the Midlands Youths Championships. Dom had two magnificent swims in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. On Saturday he just did enough to make the final in the 50m freestyle, which gave him an unfavourable outside lane, but like the true competitor he is he decided to give it his all and produce a new long course PB. On conversion his swim came very close to his personal best time which he set seven months ago in Leicester. On Monday he produced another outstanding swim to finish 2^nd in his age group after the heats, which gave him a much better chance of winning his 2^nd medal of the championships. Once again he swam out of his skin setting a new long course PB in the final to give him his 2^nd Bronze medal of the competition. Congratulations on your achievements Dom.

Hayley Walbrin, stepping up to swim at her first Youth Championships also performed very well in the heats of the 100m Breaststroke where she finished in 6^th place giving her a place in the final and a new long course PB. Although she swam well in the final she was unable to improve on her 6^th placing - our congratulations on your achievements.

Jenny Arthur started off the Midland Champs by swimming well to finish 6^th in the 1500m (which she was swimming long course for the very first time). Jenny only started swimming this distance last October at Deepings Club Champs and in March she won her age group at the County Championships. During the weekend she had a further three events the 50m, 100m & 400m Freestyle events were she performed very well. She produced another long course PB in the 400m Freestyle - a distance she has only attempted once before long course.

William Holland-Leavens, our multi-disability swimmer, had a good weekend too. He chose to swim in 6 events and in the course of the weekend he managed to win his age group in the 50m Freestyle & 100m Backstroke where he set a New Long Course PB. During the competition he went on to achieved a further four 2^nd places.
