DIVISION FOUR – MIDLAND SCHOOLS - CHAMPIONSHIP GALA 19th September 2009 Braunstone Leisure Centre
Five Deepings Swimmers Picked To Represent Lincolnshire!
4 Club Records Slashed Yet Again!
4 PBS, 6 CQTS & MQT Achieved!
On Saturday September 19th at the new Braunstone pool in Leicester 5 swimmers from Deepings were selected to represent Lincolnshire in the County’s School Swimming at the ESSA Division 4 Championships Division 4. So Tom Lane, Marcus Cook, Chris Barrett and Lauren Wray put on their green swimming hats. Unfortunately although Oliver Perkins had also been picked he was unable to compete as he has a broken collar bone, we wish him a speedy recovery.
The Lincolnshire team competed against those from Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire for selection to go forward to the ESSA National Championships to be held in Crystal Palace on 23rd & 24th October.
With such strong opposition, the Lincolnshire team was always going to find it hard to get swimmers to qualify for the finals, as only the first swimmer in each event would go forwards to the final. In fact this years team was so strong 6 Lincolnshire swimmers will be invited to the finals. I’m delighted to report that our very own Deepings Swimmer – Marcus Cook has been selected to swim in the Junior Boys 200m Individual Medley event and also the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay.
Marcus swam exceptionally well in his 200m IM shaving of over six seconds off his current time and beating his current Club Record and secured a new MQT. His success didn’t end there in the Junior 50m Freestyle event dipping under 26 seconds for the very first time, slicing well over a second off his current time to improve on his current Club Record. He just missed his MQT but won his event in a time of 26.96 and secures his place in the final. Congratulations!
Lauren Wray swam incredibly well in the girls intermediate 50m Freestyle event against very strong opposition despite finishing fourth she did manage to take Deepings 14 yrs girls Club Record, which has stood for the past seven years and was held by one of our senior swimmers Hayley Brooker - she finished in a time of 29.28 which was also a new CQT & MQT. I’m sure Lauren took great delight in the fact she dipped under 1.10.00 for the very first time in the girls 100m Butterfly and to post a time of 1.09.24 which was another Club Record and a New CQT & MQT - Congratulations!
Tom Lane has been juggling training with GCSE exams (hope they went well!) so I was delighted to see had had been picked to swim two events in the senior category. He had an excellent swim in the 200m IM to finish in seconds place. The time he posted was still well inside the MQT for November’s short course champs, which he qualified for in a faster time at the Counties earlier this year. Also he add a marvellous in he other event the 50m Freestyle were he came very close to obtaining a new club record which he currently holds. Well Done!
Chris Barrett - Congratulation on your selection to swim in this prestigious event for the County Team. Chris was picked to swim the 100m Backstroke in the boy’s junior age group. He gave a good solid performance and was a great asset to the team in helping them finish 2nd in the competition. Although his time wasn’t as fast as he went at the Tulip Meet in May, it was a new CQT. Excellent Job Well Done!
Congratulations swimmers on your selection and for your great contribution to Lincolnshire Team which finished second over all.
Good Luck to Marcus when he swims at the finals in Oct.
