DEEPINGS YOUNGSTERS WERE RIDING HIGH AT WHITTLESEY!

13 Age Group Winners, 60 Awards And 72 PBs

A large team of Deepings swimmers competing at Whittlesey in their Fenland Open Meet on Sunday 30^th May met with unbelievable success.  The aim of an open meet is for our swimmers to enjoy the event, to compete well and to come away with success; whether that’s with a trophy or a personal best time - and the team certainly did that.  It was a brilliant day for our swimmers and they did us proud particularly three of the team [Freya Cook (9 yrs), Lauren Purnell (11yrs) and Lauren Smale (12yrs)] who were swimming in their first away Open Meet for us too.

There were many encouraging swims, particularly from those trying new events and new distances.  None of them were overawed by the occasion; they all came away with at least a personal best time and in some cases trophies - Bethany Neal 100m Butterfly, Heather Hayes-Bowlzer 100m Freestyle, Niamh Brown, William Shaw & Thomas Neal 50m Fly, Chloe Smithers 100m Backstroke & 100m Fly & Ben Rockcliffe 100m Breaststroke. They all swam splendidly throughout the day. 

9 year old Bailie Harrison got the team off to an excellent start by winning the girls 9 years 50m Freestyle. Her success continued with a win in the 50m Fly and two 2^nd place trophies in 50m Breaststroke & Backstroke.

12 years old Ben Woolf got the honour of being the first of our boys to win his age group in the 100m Fly. This was shortly followed by senior swimmer and an old hand Marcus Cook in the boys 14 year old 100m Freestyle. Marcus had a very successful day, he went on to win all his events in his age group and although I don’t know have the results of the top boys award I expect Marcus’ name was in the frame. Hopefully this preparation has helped prepare him for the forthcoming Midland Age Group Championships. Lauren Wray won her 100m Fly in the same age group too.

Deepings success continued with11 year old Jordan Bull who secured two wins in his age group in the  50m Breaststroke & Freestyle. Kelda McKnight was victorious in the girls 13 year old 100m Freestyle & 100m Backstroke. All these winners went home with arms full of trophies - an outstanding performance.  Congratulations!

I understand there was a great atmosphere on poolside and excellent team sprit from the Deepings squad.  Hopefully, everyone who attended had a fantastic time despite it being over a hot bank holiday!  The team achieved 60 awards and 72 PBs which is amazing.

If you didn’t get a personal mention I’m sorry - I believe every swimmer achieved something on the day and the results speak for themselves.  It just shows what team work can do - and the success it can bring!
