LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010
SATURDAY 27th MARCH AT LOUTH RESULTS
Serena Leadbeater & Laura Swain Become Age Group Champions!
Tom Lane and Laura Swain Make Finals!
Club Records for Serena Leadbeater & William Swain!
2 Gold’s 9 silver & 8 Bronze medals were won!
62 PBs & 2 Midland Qualifying Times!

Final day of competition and Deepings swimmers made the long journey to Louth to take on the best swimmers in Lincolnshire. We had a couple of key swimmers missing from the line up due to injury, illness or other commitments. But nevertheless there were some outstanding performances throughout the day, particularly from our younger swimmers (9 & 10 year olds), who gained 1 Gold Medal, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze, 3 Club Records between them. They were:-
- 9 yrs Serena Leadbeater 1 Gold & 2 Silvers, 2 Club Records
- 9 yrs William Swain 4 Silvers, 1 Club Record
- 9 yrs Niamh Warrington 3 Bronze
- 10 yrs Jordan Bull 2 silvers
- 10 yrs Andrew Noble 3 Bronze
Performance of the day was undoubtedly from our two age group champions Serena Leadbeater (200m Backstroke) & Laura Swain (100m Breaststroke).
Our other medallists were:-
17yrs Tom Lane 1 Silver (50m Fly) & 15 yrs Laura Swain 1 Bronze (100m IM)
Tom was our only senior swimmer to make both 100m finials and he narrowly missed a medal in the 100m IM. Laura also made the finals of the girls 100m Breaststroke where she finished 5th.
In total we had 2 Gold’s 9 silver & 8 Bronze medals, 17 BAGCAT awards, and 42 swimmers finishing in the top 5. By the end of the day our squad had clocked up 62 personal best times & gained 2 more Midland Qualifying Times.
Swimming in the senior category for the first time at Counties this year was Oliver Perkins who has maintained his impressive run of PBs during each County gala. His performance has been very impressive; particularly when he only turned 16 on the 17th March, although no medal on Saturday he did achieve a MQT in the 50m Butterfly. He has shown he is happy to mix it with the big boys and at times give them a run for their money, or so they say.
I’m also delighted to say Kelda McKnight achieved her first ever MQT after giving a superb performance in the heat’s of the girls 200m Backstroke.
I would also like to praise our senior swimmer for taking time out from their studies or work commitments to attend the Counties Championships. It is hard enough sometimes to fit in training during this revision period, let alone to perform well. During the course of the championships
Dom Gray became County Champion in the 50m Breaststroke,
Luke De Moya got a County Record in the 50m Backstroke,
Luke De Moya, Tom Lane, Tom Freeman Dom Gray and Oliver Perkins all made finals.
And some personal best & Midland times were achieved too.
William Holland Leaven & Jordan Clark was just two of our disability swimmers to compete on Saturday. As always took time out from their studies to be at the championships and compete. They are an asset to our squad and they inspire many young swimmers to do their very best. Hopefully any youngsters with or without a disabilities will be inspired by their achievements and say to them ‘if he can do his best, then so can I.

All our swimmers have worked really hard and conducted themselves in a true sporting manner throughout the Championships. There has been great team work and some excellent individual preparation has gone into making these championships a success for Deepings Swimming Club.
We would like to thank everyone that attended the galas and who has worked on poolside.
Also our thanks must goes to our Coach - Lynn Chapman for preparing our swimmers so well.
