LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS Gala 5 & 6

Headlines Day 4
2 County Champions, 4 Age Group Champions,
11 New Club Records, 24 Medals, 4 MQT & 74 PBs
Deepings swimmers were out in force to face some strong opposition from the other competing clubs and didn’t they do well! Once again our swimmers turned in another excellent set of results on day 4 of the competition at the Lincolnshire County Championships.
The Championships started with the 50m Freestyle sprint where 9 year old Serena Leadbeater (silver) & Niamh Warrington (bronze) picked up the club’s first two medals for the competition.
In event two Jordan Bull became the 10 years 50m Breaststroke Age Group Champion. He was presented with a bronze medal for his 200m Freestyle swim setting a personal best time at both 100m and 200m marks. He also completed the day with a silver medal in the boys 400m IM, where he managed to achieve a new club records in his 100m Butterfly spit.
Our swimmers brought home a grand total of 24 medals – 4 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze, as well as achieving 73 personal best times on the day!
They also broke 11 club records. These came from:
- Oliver Perkins 200m Freestyle
- Elliott Bull 50m Breaststroke
- Jordan Bull 100m Fly
- Benjamin Woolf 200m Butterfly
- William Swain 200m Freestyle & 50m Freestyle
- Bailie Harrison 50m Breaststroke & 200m Freestyle
- Lauren Wray 200m, 100m Butterfly & 200m Freestyle
Our Age Group Champions were:-
- Jordan Bull 50m Breaststroke
- Dom Gray 50m Breaststroke
- Laura Swain 50m Breaststroke
- Lauren Wray 200m Butterfly
Success also came to Tom Freeman (1), Lauren Wray (2) & Dom Gray (1) who all gained midland qualifying times on the day too.
There were many individual highlights, not least the performances given by our two County Champions Dom Gray in the Boys 50m Breaststroke and Lauren Wray in the Girls 200m Butterfly. Both swimmers demonstrated how talented they were by producing two powerful swims, claiming victory not just for themselves but for the club. Brilliant Stuff!
Chris Barrett is one of those unlucky swimmers to have a birthday in March, as he immediately has to swim in a higher age group at the County Championships, but once again in the 14 years age group Chris demonstrated what a talent he is, performing consistently well in all his events. The heat of the 200m Butterfly gave him a chance to shine by bringing home a silver medal - and he achieved a well earned personal best time! Well done!
9 year old William Swain tally included two silver medals in the 50m Freestyle and the 200m Freestyle (which was also a new club record) and a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke.
Our boys performed well in the heats of the 100m Backstroke where Luke De Moya, Tom Lane, Tom Freeman and Oliver Perkins all qualified for the final - but only Oliver Perkins and Tom Freeman competed. Both boys swam well, but it was Oliver who managed to squeeze just a little bit more speed from his reserves to finish in another personal best time and move into 5th place.
Laura Swain made her presence felt in the heats of the girls 50m Breaststroke by giving a brilliant performance, and was on the heels of the two Lincoln Vulcan girls who took the top two slots in the open. Laura finished 3rd overall but also took gold in the 15 year old age group. She also had a tremendous swim in the heats for the 50m Freestyle where she dipped under 30 seconds for the very first time.
New comer and first time out for the club at Counties was 16 year Daniel Anderson who had a confident swim in the heats of the boys 50m Freestyle where he set a personal best time which I’m sure will be his first of many.
All our swimmers swam well with some huge PBs being achieved - far too many to mention - so I’m sorry if you were one of the swimmers not to get a mention on this occasion!

and a big thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday either to help on poolside or support our swimmers from the balcony. It is very much appreciated.
