Long Distance Combined Championships 2010 at Corby’s International Pool (50m)

Great Start to the Championships!

Lauren Wray Finished 2nd in Her Age Group!
Samara McKnight Finishes 3rd in Her Age Group for a Second Year!
4 Long Course PBs Achieved!

Deepings Swimmers made a super start to this year’s Lincolnshire County Age Group Championships held for the very first time in Corby’s new 50m long course pool. Corby’s pool is believed to be quick but as everyone knows a 50m pool takes no prisoners, it is challenging and very demanding for any swimmers. This year’s competition was a real curtain raiser and did get the 2010 Championships off to a grand start, an early indication that swimmers are in good form into the Championships which start in earnest in March.

Lauren Wray had to have a smile on her face after giving such a confident performance on Saturday. Although not a PB this time round, she did however use her experience to dig deep into her reserves to finish 2nd in her own age group and finished 3rd in the open event which was brilliant news!

Chris Barrett our only male swimmer to compete - swam superbly well, taking over 35 seconds off his entry time to produce a New Long Course PB! He finished in 4th in his age group and 8th in the open event. At this gala last year, Chris qualified for the Midlands but although in great shape, his 1st attempt at the1500m long course proved to be a challenge. Unfortunately he was unable to hit that qualifying time this year. He did however swim brilliantly and the improvement he has made since he qualified for the Counties last September speaks for its self. This should give him confidence when going through the other rounds of the Counties. The good news is there is still plenty of time to qualify for the Midlands which he is more than capable of achieving. Well Done!

Competing in the 1500m for the first time at a major competition was Emma Watts. She had an outstanding swim and improved on her entry time by well over 46 seconds. A terrific performance particularly when this is only the third time she has swum this event and never before long course! Congratulations!

Grace Lamsdale achieved her first ever 1500m Freestyle County qualifying time at club champs last September where she swam splendidly. At Corby she had new challenges to swim it long course! As always she didn’t let the 50m pool faze her and gave a commendable performance to achieve 5th place and a new long course PB - Excellent news well done!

Samara McKnight finishes 3rd in her age group for second year excellent news! Samara was swimming this event for only the second time at Counties, last year she swam short course but she tackles Corby’s new 50m pool with confidence setting a new long course PB. Her converted time indicated she was over 9 seconds faster than she had previously swum which is superb and just the news you want at the start of the Championships. Well Done!

Congratulations Swimmers an Excellent Start to the Championships!
