Laura Ballaam Becomes the 100m Butterfly County Champion!

Marcus Cook Achieves His 200m Breaststroke National Time!

Deepings swimmers had a fantastic day at the Counties on Saturday despite the hiccups the officials had at the start of the gala with timing equipment and the pads not working correctly. Sadly, they had to convert to manual times for the rest of the day, so there are very few split times to be taken into consideration. I’m pleased to reports that Deepings swimmers didn’t allow this to effect their performances on the day.

All our swimmers performed marvelously, we had swimmers in every category & all age groups were represented either by the girls or the boys.  Although we had seven fewer swims competing in this gala then last year, they equaled the number of PBs, Age Group Champions and MQT’s as last year. 

Laura Ballaam became Deepings first County Champion of 2009 & Marcus Cook achieved his first National Time of 2009 despite carrying an injury.

 We have two swimmers with Nationals Times now Lauren Wray and Marcus Cook, both will be representing Deepings at the Nationals later this year. 

I am delighted to say that our youngest and oldest competitors on the day won medals Jordan Bull and Andrew Noble both age 9 and Sam Dalton now aged 30 (my daughter tells me this is the first County medal she has ever won and she even went to count the competitors to make sure there were more than 3 in her age group ha ha), which goes to show it’s never too old to succeed. Last year we had no nine year olds swimming at the Counties but I’m pleased to say that three qualified this year Eleanor Templer joined the two 9 year old boys.

I was over the moon to see that the county executive have reintroduced medals for the top three in each age group. Club swimmers aspire to gain a county qualifying time, and for many swimmers this is their major competition. It is therefore lovely to know they can be rewarded for their hard work and efforts in the pool. I am delighted to say we had 27 Age Group Medal Winners they were, in no particular order:- 

Sam Dalton, Laura Colledge, Dom Gray, Tom Lane, Marcus Cook, Lauren Wray, Samara McKnight, Tom Ballaam, Alex Wray, Jordan Bull, Andrew Noble, Ben Woolf, Jenny Arthur & Laura Ballaam.

Marcus Cook (3), Dom Gray (1), Tom Lane (2), Daniel Luff (2), Laura Ballaam (1) & Lauren Wray (3),

MQT near misses Dom Gray 50m Backstroke & Laura Swain 100m Freestyle better luck next time!

Many of our swimmers performed exceptionally well this year with 57 swimmers finishing in the top 6 places, an improvement by over 25 on last year!
The results show our swimmers achieved: - 6 x 1^st, 10 x 2^nd, 11 x 3^rd, 11 x 4^th, 8 x 5^th & 12 x 6^th places

Our thanks must go to our Coach Lynn Chapman for doing such a fine job & for all her hard work. Also to her poolside helpers that do give up their time to help her get our swimmers ready for these & other major events without your help results like these wouldn’t be possible.

Also a big thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday to worked on poolside too.

And last to all those that supported our swimmers from the balcony, it is very much appreciated.
