City of Derby Level 1 Open Meet, Sheffield, 9 & 10 Jan
Just three Deepings swimmers ventured north through the cold wintery conditions to compete in the City of Derby’s Open Meet, the first long course meet of the season. After the festive celebrations all three swimmers found themselves off the pace.
Marcus Cook Decided it was best to withdraw from the proceedings after just two events as he was feeling quite lethargic. It seems that all the good food he consumed over the Christmas period has meant he has had another growth spurt, he has grown 2 inches since October which might just be the reason for his lack of energy – wait until that power kicks in, there will be no stopping him then.
Laura Swain She turned in a couple of good results although was unable to replicate her current personal best time at Ponds Forge, she did post times much faster than she set this time last year, which all bows well for this year’s County Championships. We have to remember it’s the start of the year and she chose to swim long course too for her first gala of the season.
Lauren Wray Set herself another grueling seven event schedule but like Marcus found, at times a little off the pace but this isn’t surprising giving the time of year. She did however save her best result for last the 400m Freestyle, despite very little long course preparation so far, she was still faster than the time she set at Sheffield at the Nationals in the summer. So her preparation seems to be right on track and is looking good for 2010.
