Burns Open Meet, Sheffield, 30 & 31 January 2010

Success in the Pool for Lauren Wray and Tom Lane

As They Bag Themselves Midland Times & Club Records!

Two Club Records, 3 MQT & 7 PBs Achieved!

Two Deepings swimmers journeyed to Sheffield to take part in their first major competition of the year, at the Burns Open Meet in Ponds Forge Pool. This was a high quality gala, which saw the participation of many of the country’s best swimmers. Many of them were there trying to achieve their qualifying times for the forthcoming British Championships at the end of March and which will incorporating Commonwealth Games Trials.

There is always a buzz at this pool and you know you are always going to see some good performances. Our own Lauren Wray (14) certainly did not disappoint in the heats of the 200m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle where she competed well against some tough opposition. Her efforts bagged her two excellent Midland Qualifying times & Two New Club Records. I am please to say she now has two more NQTs firmly in her sights after those two performances.

Tom Lane applied himself well in the face of tough opposition too. He gave two excellent performances in both his 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke events. I’m delighted to report he secured a Midland Qualifying Time & a New Club Record in the Butterfly and produced his fastest ever 50m Backstroke time long course, which was excellent news.

It is very encouraging to see that these two swimmers are in good shape and ready for the challenges ahead at the County Championships, where I’m sure they will produce some quality swims.

Our thanks to anyone that attended the gala to support them!

Congratulations swimmers on your achievements!
