The ASA Age Group Championships 2008 (50m), Sheffield, 24th July - 27th July 2008
Congratulations to Lauren Wray & Marcus Cook
on their achievements this year and
for qualifying for the Nationals!
Last year Marcus was our only swimmer to qualify for these championships and it was great news when he qualified again. Marcus being the true competitor he is had two excellent swims in both the 800m and 400m Freestyle. Although not PBs on this occasion he did match the excellent time he achieved at the Midlands Championships last month which was a PB in the 800m & and was just outside the time he set at the Counties Championships in the 400m Freestyle.
It was excellent news for both Lauren and the Club that she had also qualified, giving our club two Nationals swimmers this year. Lauren swam three events the 200m, 800m & 1500m Freestyle, she gave a remarkable performance in all three, taking her swimming to another level. In the 200m Freestyle she almost equaled the time she set at the Midland Chapionships last month, a great achievement first time out. However, it was her swim in the 800m that impressed me the most as she smashed her own PB by over 9 seconds to finish in 13 the place. She also achieved a personal best time in the 1500m event by two second to finish in 12th place, which just goes to show the strength and stamina she has by competing in both these grueling events.
Marcus and Lauren are certainly inspiring. We need to thank our club coach Lynn Chapman for doing an excellent job preparing our swimmers for these Championships. Throughout the club our swimmers are swimming faster and better, setting more PB’s and winning more trophies, so hopefully we will have a few more swimmer at next year’s national championships!
